Young Ladies' Institute

The Young Ladies’ Institute (YLI), Pinole, St. Joseph Church.

The Young Ladies’ Grand Institute (YLGI) is an organization of Catholic women dedicated to the principles of Unity, Sisterly Love, and Protection. Formerly known as the Young Ladies’ Institute (YLI), the organization was founded in San Francisco on September 5, 1887, by three women to provide material support to a young woman who contracted tuberculosis. The history of this organization reflects a sisterly care and concern for each other as well as for those in need. More details can be found at: https://www.ylionline.org/

YLGI #78 St. Anne’s is located in Pinole at St. Joseph Church. Our founding institute members date back to 1917. The meetings are usually held on the third Thursday of the month beginning at 7:00 pm in the parish hall. Activities we are involved with include: offering perpetual novenas, supporting St. Joseph Church, donating to the education of seminarians, providing scholarships, adopting needy families at Thanksgiving and Christmas, and fundraising to support St. Joseph School, SVDP, and local charities, such as Meals on Wheels and Birthright.

We offer you friendship, support, leadership training, and opportunity to make a difference to those in need. We “young ladies” are known for our baking skills as we provide the GRIP soup kitchen with monthly cookie donations, sponsor bi-annual bake sales, and run the Cake booth at Oktoberfest.

If you would like an invitation to be a YLGI member, attend an upcoming meeting as a guest or learn more about YLGI, please contact Louanne Lee-Kraynik, the current president, or Karen Sanchez, the membership chair via email at: YLGI.78StAnne@gmail.com
